The 2010 Winter Olympics are being held in Vancouver, Canada, from 12-28 February, with over 5000 athletes and officials from 80 different nations competing across 15 sport disciplines.
The Winter Paralympic Games will take place from 12 - 21 March. NSWIS athletes Bart Bunting, Toby Kane, Shannon Dallas, Nicholas Watts and Nathan Chivers have been selected to compete in Vancouver.
Long considered an underdog in Winter Olympic competition, Australia will be sending 25-30 athletes to compete at the Games, with a number of NSWIS athletes proving their chances at medals.
Leading the NSWIS charge are Snowboarders Torah Bright and Holly Crawford. Bright is the reigning Winter X-Games Snowboard Champion, while Crawford recently picked up Australia's first World Championship Snowboard medal by placing second at the recent Snowboard World Championships in Korea.
Ski-cross athlete Jenny Owens, along with Cross Country skiier Ben Sim are both a solid chance for medals, with Sim making his debut at Olympic level. Owens has been in great form over the past two months, while Sim has relocated to train in the gruelling conditions of Siberia to fine tune his preparation for Vancouver.
