The NSWIS Bowls Program aims to improve athlete development with a view to prepare nationally identified senior athletes for international success and to prepare identified under-25 athletes for Open and under-25 international, national and state competitions. It provides centrally-based training opportunities for regional and metropolitan athletes through camps.
The NSWIS Bowls Program targets both metropolitan and regional athletes and is delivered through centralised camps operating primarily from the Roselands Bowling Club. Up to 26 scholarships are offered on an annual basis, starting February 1 each year.
Cameron Curtis has been coordinating the NSWIS Bowls Program since April 2005 in his capacity as the National Head Coach. Curtis first became involved with bowls at the age of 12. When he was 21, he became the youngest male bowler to ever represent Australia at the senior level, a record which he holds to this day. His career playing highlights include winning a gold medal in the pairs at the 1994 Commonwealth Games and taking out the World Indoor Pairs Championships that same year. As Australian head coach at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games, Curtis led Australia to the greatest performance of any country in the history of the games with seven NSWIS athletes contributing to this success.
