2009-2012 Canoe Slalom Program

The NSWIS Canoe Slalom Program is a joint National Centre of Excellence Program (NCE) with both an elite and emerging athlete component. The program maximises the collective expertise and resources of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Australian Canoeing (AC) and the NSWIS in a unique partnership to achieve excellence and success at the international level.

The program’s focus is assisting identified elite and potential elite NSW athletes by providing world class coaching, facilities, infrastructure and support services in an intensive daily centralised training and camp based environment at the Penrith Whitewater Stadium.

Interesting Fact:
In gaining selection for the 2008 Beijing Olympic team, Jacqueline Lawrence had to fend off her two sisters and fellow scholarship holders, Katrina and Rosalyn, to gain a place on the team. After securing her spot, Lawrence capped off an outstanding result in one of the most exciting finals of the Games, winning a silver medal in the Women’s K1 Slalom.
