2009 - 2012 Cycling Program
The NSWIS Cycling Program supports the daily training needs of Olympic discipline track and road cyclists competing, or showing the potential to compete at an international level in open, transition, and junior categories. Associate scholarships are also offered to senior athletes that are based overseas for the majority of the year.
The program also provides a pathway into the NSWIS scholarship program for up and coming cyclists through an Emerging Talent Squad that offers support to up to 35 athletes representing NSW, or who have the potential to represent NSW, at a senior or junior level.
The NSWIS also supports the National Talent Identification and Development Squad which aims to identify cyclists with the ability to compete at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The Cycling Program has been supported by the Bankstown District Sports Club (BDSC) since 1999.
Interesting Fact:
Former NSWIS scholarship holder Natalie Bates has joined the NSWIS coaching team as a Women In High Performance Sport Scholarship Coach. Natalie will be working closely with Gary Sutton on the national women’s track endurance program as well as work with a squad of up and coming female cyclists identified by Cycling NSW.
In 2009 Megan Dunn became the most successful junior cyclist in the history of the sport by winning her 4th, 5th & 6th Junior World Championship titles. Megan now has the challenge of transitioning from junior to senior ranks as she vies for a spot on the team to London in 2012.
