The NSWIS Diving Program aims to prepare athletes for national and international success and also to enhance the NSW underpinning program through coach education initiatives. It has established itself as one of the most exciting and innovative sports programs in Australia.
The NSWIS Diving Program targets athletes who are members of Diving Australia National teams or squads, identified emerging diving athletes and Talent Transfer athletes.
NSWIS Diver, Alexandra Croak is only the 13th Australian athlete to compete at the Olympic Games in two different sports. Croak was a part of the 2000 Australian Gymnastics team for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and will now compete at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in Diving.
The NSWIS Diving program is coached by five-time Olympic diver and coach, Chava Sobrino. Sobrino represented Mexico in the sport of diving at the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games but his career was cut short due to a shoulder injury. As a result, Sobrino turned to coaching and achieved success almost immediately by becoming the Mexican National coach, moving to Australia in 1995. Sobrino has since represented Australia at the 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games as an Australian coach.
Sobrino was instrumental in coaching Rebecca Gilmore and Loudy Tourky to an Olympic bronze medal in Sydney 2000 - breaking a 76-year Olympic medal drought for Australia in diving. It was Australia's first Olympic medal (female) in diving.
