2009 - 2012 Equestrian Program
The NSWIS Equestrian Program supports the training needs of athletes via a camps based approach. Support is provided to a range of athletes including those competing at an open international level as well as junior athletes that form part of the Emerging Talent Squad.
The Program targets athletes competing in eventing, dressage and show jumping disciplines with up to 38 scholarships offered annually and up to 20 additional athletes receiving access to service based support via the Emerging Talent Squad.
The Equestrian Program uses the Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC) to conduct specialised skills clinics, providing NSWIS athletes with a world-class Olympic venue for training and competition.
Interesting Fact:
During 2006 and 2007, the equestrian program felt the impact of the Equine influenza, which effected competitions leading into the Olympic qualification period. Regardless of this set back, the NSWIS Equestrian Program contributed four athletes to the national team to compete at the Beijing Olympics, with Shane Rose winning silver in the Team's event.
