Sports Rowing

The NSWIS Rowing Program aims to prepare identified senior, under-23 and junior athletes for national and international success and to establish and develop effective elite development programs.

The NSWIS Rowing Program targets elite, under-23, junior and emerging athlete. The strength of the NSWIS Rowing Program is its access to world class coaching expertise, equipment and athlete support services through the elite club network in NSW. The Program is led by Technical Coordinator Dr. Andrew Randell with support from Elite Development Coordinator Stani Slavova. The Program also has an emerging athlete component. NSWIS / NSW Rowing Association emerging athletes are members of the Blues Squad and they benefit from up to six camps per year.

The NSWIS Rowing Program has consistently contributed athletes to the Australian Olympic Rowing team. In 2008, NSWIS Rowing athletes assisted in qualifying five boats for Beijing (10 boats were qualified for Australia in total). Thirteen NSWIS athletes represented Australia at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games with Matthew Ryan and Francis Hegerty winning silver in the Men's Four. NSWIS Head Coach, Dr Andrew Randell has also been nominated to the team as an Assistant Coach (LM4).

In 2007, NSWIS athletes Bronwen Watson and Miranda Bennett competed as part of the Lightweight Women’s Four which won the 2007 World Championships in Munich, Germany.
