2009 - 2012 Proposed Soccer Program
The NSWIS Soccer Program includes male and female components supporting athletes via a centralised soccer program, as well as a Northern program based in Newcastle.
The program supports the daily training needs of female soccer players competing at an international level in open, transition, and junior categories with a focus on World Cup and Olympic qualification.
The men's program supports junior athletes with the potential to compete at an international level, with a major focus on assisting athletes in 'graduating' to the AIS program and selection to compete in the National Youth League Competition.
Interesting fact:
In 2007, 10 NSWIS athletes contributed to the Australian Women’s Soccer team which created history by reaching the quarter finals of the 2007 Women’s World Cup. This is the best ever performance of an Australian Senior Soccer team. During the competition, Cheryl Salisbury, NSWIS scholarship holder and captain of the Australian Women’s Soccer team, became Australia’s most capped player (male or female) playing 130 games for her country.
