The NSWIS Soccer Program aims to prepare its male athletes for selection to the National under-17 squad and the AIS program, and its women's program for increased NSW representation on senior and under-20 national teams. The programs focus on assisting athletes to achieve international success.
The NSWIS Soccer Program targets athletes from three key areas. These are: Central Men, Central Women and Northern which is mixed.
NSWIS boasts some impressive male graduates of the NSWIS Soccer program. To name a few: Dean Bouzanis - scholarship holder in 2005/06 signed as a goalkeeper for Liverpool Youth Academy; Nathan Burns - scholarship holder in 2003/04 has recently signed a contract with AEK Athens F.C. in Greece. Burns has made 54 appearances, scoring 11 goals for Adelaide United in the Australian A-League; Bruce Djite - scholarship holder in 2003/04 made his international debut for the Socceroos against Singapore in March 2008.
In 2007, 10 NSWIS athletes contributed to the Australian Women’s Soccer team which created Australian Soccer history by reaching the quarter finals of the 2007 Women’s World Cup. This is the best ever performance of an Australian Senior Soccer team. During the competition, Cheryl Salisbury, NSWIS scholarship holder and captain of the Australian Women’s Soccer team, became Australia’s most capped player (male or female) playing 130 games for her country.
At only 25 years of age, Heather Garriock, NSWIS Soccer scholarship holder is one of only four Australian Soccer athletes (male or female) to reach the milestone of 100 international caps.
In 2007, at only 16 years of age, Ellyse Perry, former NSWIS Cricket scholarship holder and current NSWIS Soccer scholarship holder, made her senior international debut for both the Australia national women's cricket team and the Australia national women's soccer team.
