The NSWIS Softball Program aims to increase the level of success of athletes at national and international competition. It provides the daily training environment for nationally identified athletes in NSW.
The NSWIS Softball Program targets 24 full scholarship athletes (excluding associate scholarships) and 15 Emerging Athlete Program (EAP) athletes annually. NSWIS / SNSW emerging athletes benefit from accessing quality coaching. Athletes are targeted for inclusion in the Youth Friendship Series and National under-23 Program.
NSWIS Softball scholarship holder Natalie Ward is the captain of the Australian Open Women's Softball team. She has represented Australia at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games – Beijing was her fourth Olympic Games.
NSWIS Softball scholarship holder Stacey Porter has represented Australia on 180 occasions, is an Olympic silver and bronze medallist and regarded as one of the best batters in the world. Porter achieved her dream to represent Australia on the biggest stage at the Athens Olympics in 2004 and again represented her country at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Porter was recently awarded the 2008 NAIDOC Sportsperson of the Year, recognising the outstanding contributions that individual Indigenous Australians make to their own communities and the broader Australian community.
