Gold's a breeze
Congratulations to NSWIS sailing pair Malcolm Page and Nathan Wilmot, gold medallists in the men’s 470.
After a disappointing 12th in Athens, Page and Wilmot add Olympic gold to their world number one ranking and three world championship titles (2004, 2005 and 2007).
The pair went into the 11th and final race assured of the gold medal after consistent performances in their first 10 races had them sitting on 42 points, 22 points clear of their nearest rival. The medal race saw them finish in second place to bring their total net points to 44, moving them even further ahead of silver medalists Great Britain on 75 points and bronze medalists France on 78 points.
Page and Wilmot's gold medal takes the NSWIS Olympic medal tally to two gold, three silver and one bronze. With 85 NSWIS scholarship holders competing in Beijing, and still six more days of action, there’s plenty of opportunities for these numbers to go up and up.
