The NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) Swimming Program is supported as a world class program delivered in partnership with Swimming Australia (SAL) and Swimming NSW (SNSW).
Partners are currently reviewing and developing the Program for 2013-16 in line the Australian Sports Commission’s 'The Winning Edge'. The NSWIS will continue to support athletes identified through SAL’s national scholarship framework until the national strategy for swimming in Australia is confirmed.
With 20 scholarships on offer annually, the program aims to maximise coach and athlete representation on the Australian swimming team, produce athletes capable of achieving medal winning performances at international competitions and develop coaches with the expertise to produce athletes with the potential to perform on the world stage.
In addition to the overall NSWIS Swimming Program partnered by SAL and SNSW, the NSWIS has entered into three key partnerships that aid in the delivery of the world class program, supporting athletes from senior international to emerging talent. These partnerships are:
- As part of the swimming program the NSWIS is in partnership with Sydney University Sport and Fitness (SUSF), and in consultation with SAL and SNSW, aims to achieve world class results while supporting growth and academic achievement
- In partnership with SAL and the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC), the NSWIS supports the Swimming Centre of Excellence at SOPAC through the provision of world class coaches and daily training environment
In partnership with SNSW an Emerging Talent Squad underpins the NSWIS Swimming Program providing emerging athletes with a pathway into the NSWIS program with the aim of developing the next generation of elite swimmers.
