Abi Harrigan, Cam Waddell and Matty Cox in the First World Cup Competition of the Season

The Big Air Chur (SUI) in Switzerland has kickstarted the 2021/2022 FIS World Cup for Snowboard Park and Pipe and Freeski competition over weekend.
The event which combined freestyle snow sports and music in a festival format, was an opportunity for NSWIS athletes Abi Harrigan and Cameron Waddell to accumulate points as they vie for Olympic qualification. The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games are now just over 100 days away.
The FIS World Cup commenced in an epic fashion attracting large crowds to the Chur Big Air Festival. Abi and Cameron finished 22nd and 24th respectively. Fellow NSWIS athlete, Matthew Cox joined the competition placing 11th in the FIS snowboard big air festival at the weekends season opener.

In a promising sign for the on-going season, during his recent training in Stelvio, Italy, Cameron landed his first forwards Dub 1620. In landing the trick he became only the second Australian athlete behind Russ Henshaw to ever do so. Cameron also landed a forwards Dub 1620, becoming the first Australian to land this rotation on snow.
