Valentino Guseli is an Australian snowboarder that competes in the halfpipe, slopestyle, and big air disciplines. He was selected for his first Australian Olympic team for the Beijing 2022 Winter Games.

Valentino put the world on notice at his world cup debut in Laax, Switzerland in January 2021 when he qualified for the halfpipe finals in first place. At the time he was just 15 years old. In the final, the teenager finished eighth against a very experienced field – an incredible achievement for his first world cup.

Hailing from Dalmeny, a small town on the NSW South Coast, Valentino has been hitting the slopes at Perisher since he was a toddler. When he was seven, he began training under US Snowboarding Coach, Mike Lund in Vermont, USA, and at just 11 years old, he became the youngest person ever to perform a double backflip.

At the 2019 FIS Junior World Championships the young rider placed 10th in the halfpipe.

After claiming back-to-back silvers medals at the US Open Junior Jam in 2017 and 2018, Valentino dominated at the 2019 event in Vail, Colorado to win gold in the halfpipe with a score of 96.99 points, over four points clear of second place. The win earned him a start in the open event where he lined up against the world’s best riders, including one of his idols – Olympic bronze medallist and three-time world champion, Scotty James.

The NSW Institute of Sport scholarship holder went on to win the slopestyle discipline in the 2019 World Rookie Tour and second place in the halfpipe, before going on making his world cup debut in Laax in January 2021. Valentino then made his senior world championship debut in March 2021, where he placed 11th.  The following month, and one day before his 16th birthday, Valentino broke snowboarding champion Shaun White’s 11-year-old big air world record when he flew 7.3m into the air out of the pipe.

Valentino recorded a 13th place finish in the halfpipe 2021-22 world cup event at Mammoth Mountain followed by 5th place at the Laax world cup.

Debuting at the Winter Olympic Games at just 16-years-of-age, Valentino was the youngest member of the Australian Team to compete at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

Valentino achieved a top ten finish in the men’s snowboard halfpipe Olympic final, earning sixth place overall and was the only competitor to land all three of his Olympic Final runs.
