The Hockeyroos are through to the gold medal match after a nail biting end to the semi-final against India at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, winning in a penalty shoot out, 3 – 0.
The Hockeyroos had the lead going into the fourth quarter before India scored, signalling a repeat of the Tokyo Olympic Games result when India broke Australian hearts.
With less than three minutes to go, NSWIS scholarship holders Grace Stewart and Kaitlin Knobbs were going all out, giving their all trying to score another goal and avoid a penalty shoot out.
Despite several short corners, the Hockeyroos were not able to capitalise on their advantages and could not score a goal, the match ending and progressing to a penalty shoot out.
Rosie Malone scored first goal in penalty, followed by a miss from India. Kaitlin Knobbs stepped up for Australia and sealed a second goal as India missed theirs. It was soon all over when the Hockeyroos scored their third goal and advanced through to the final.
The Hockeyroos face host nation England in the early hours of Monday morning (AEST).
