Emma Jeffcoat Battles Through Olympic Triathlon Debut
Posted on July 27, 2021 by NSW Institute of Sport
Olympic Debutante Emma Jeffcoat battled through the testing Tokyo conditions to finish in 26th position in Tuesday’s individual event.
The NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarship holder was one of three Australian triathletes to take part in the event, and was the only Australian representative to finish the event, after Ash Gentle and Jaz Hedgeland were lapped during their bike leg.
Jeffcoat came out of the swimming leg in eigth position and was sitting just outside the breakway pack of six at the half way mark of the bike leg.
With a gruelling 5km left in the running leg, the NSWIS scholarship holder was sitting in 20th position and battled through to finish the event in 26th position.
Incredible finish by our Aussie Emma Jeffcoat!! 🇦🇺🇦🇺 #Tokyo2020
