The second day of the mixed Narca 17 sailing competition continued on Thursday with NSWIS scholarship athletes Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmanin remaining firmly in the hunt for medals.
Day 2 of the event saw races 4-6 take place, with the NSW duo starting strongly in race 4. Up in the top three places for most the race, they fell back one place to finish in 4th position behind the top three ranked teams of Great Britain, Italy and Germany.
The NSWIS athletes were unable to match their fourth-place finish in the next two races, crossing the line seventh in race 5 and 8th in race 6, having made up a number of places from a slow start.
At the end of six races, Waterhouse and Darmanin sit in 5th place overall on 25 points, just behind Argentina (23pts), and Germany (10pts), who occupy the first of the medal positions.
The Nacra 17 competitors will now enjoy a day off before heading back onto the water on Saturday.
