As the sun began to set on the diving program at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the world’s best male 10m platform athletes took centre stage.
Leading the charge for Australia, was #TeamNSWIS’ Sam Fricker and compatriot Cassiel Rousseau.
Fricker making his Olympic debut began strongly throwing down a back twister dive scoring 67.20 points that brought a smile to coach Thomas Rickards back in Sydney. The strong start even saw the NSWIS athlete outscore diving royalty Tom Daley in the opening round.
As the intensity of the competition ramped up, Fricker diligently worked his way his dive list finishing with a memorable inward three and a half somersaults earning himself 70.40 points.
Fricker closed out the competition in 28th position and 306.50 points which unfortunately was not enough to progress to tomorrow’s semi-final.
Fellow Australian Cassiel Rousseau finished in 8th place with 423.55 points earning a place in Saturday’s semi-final.
