Four time Olympian and Olympic silver medallist, Melissa Wu continued her pursuit of sporting excellence at the Tokyo Aquatic Centre this afternoon posting an impressive performance in the 10m platform qualifying.
NSWIS scholarship athlete, Wu set the tone early, drilling a front three and a half somersaults dive to score 69.00 points to get her Olympic campaign underway.
The pick of the bunch though was the inward three and a half somersault, scoring 75.20 and even bringing a wry smile to coach Chava Sobrino.
The dive had a beautiful tuck position, timing the entry to perfection and disappearing into the water.
After the 5th round the Australian had amassed 351.20 points, placing her in 4th overall.
Mentor and Coach Chava Sobrino was full of praise for Wu’s performance “The consistency was the key today, to average 70 points across 5 rounds is an excellent platform to launch into the semi-finals tomorrow morning.”
The semi-finals continue on Thursday 5th August at 11am (AEST time) ahead of the Olympic final from 3.50pm on Thursday afternoon.
