What role has the NSWIS played in your success?
It has helped me financially, as well as with my fitness program. I have worked with some NSWIS S&C coaches for my gym training, and also for my altitude training. I love training at the NSWIS gym, there are lots of cool toys and good athletes training there, I just wish it wasn’t so far from Penrith..!
How do you find your Strength Within?
Producing the best paddling I can is very rewarding. I have put a lot of time and energy into creating my own style, I find it very touching when someone says they like the way I paddle. I’m also a bit of a perfectionist sometimes. There are things I just need to get perfectly, otherwise I won’t be 100% satisfied and I’ll get frustrated. Finally, getting on the podium is something special, and it’s a feeling I want to experience again and again.
What has been your proudest moment in your sport?
My nomination onto the 2016 Olympic team.
What are you ambitions for the next 12 months?
I’m looking to improve my consistency and get more world cup medals. More importantly, I want to be on the podium at the World championships in Pau. Really I’m aiming for 1st place, but won’t mind 2nd or 3rd..!
What is the worst thing about being an elite athlete?
The finance side of things can be really hard. There is very little money in my sport..!
What is the best thing about being an elite athlete?
Winning big races, and making your country proud.
