NSWIS wheelchair track & road athlete Kurt Fearnley has claimed his fourth Chicago Marathon after a stirring performance overnight in the Windy City.
Fearnley powered to victory in a time of 1:29:23, too good for Switzerland’s Heinz Frei and the USA’s Joshua George, and an excellent sign of his form ahead of next year’s 2012 London Paralympic Games.
Fearnley previously won the Chicago Marathon in 2007, 2008 and 2009, but took a break from the event last year. He will be gunning for three consecutive Paralympic marathon gold medals in London.
Fellow NSWIS athlete Christie Dawes also tasted success in Chicago by finishing second in the women’s wheelchair division. Dawes had her first child only eight months ago and bounced back to post a new personal best time of 1:47:01.
