Stuart Jones making his Paralympic debut in Tokyo placed fifth in the men’s T1-2 time trial on Tuesday 31st August at the Fuji International Speedway.
NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarship athlete Jones, who claimed silver at the 2019 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships came into the time trial knowing it was going to be his toughest yet and he didn’t need any extra motivation with his goal pre games being “to win a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games”.
Jones was up against the worlds best and athletes that were in top form, Jones clocked a finish time of 31:12:94 for the 16 kilometre race which placed him fifth. The bronze medal was claimed by Spanish rider Joan Reinoso Figuerola in a time of 30:44:21, 28 seconds quicker than Jones.
The race and gold went to China’s Jianxin Chen in a super quick time of 25:00:32.
For Jones he now moves his attention to the men’s T1-2 road race which takes place on Thursday 2nd September at 14.00 (AEST).
