Matthew Mitcham inducted to Sport Australia Hall of Fame

Olympic gold medalist diver Matthew Mitcham has been inducted to the Sport Australia Hall of Fame for 2020.

NSW Institute of Sport alumni athlete Matthew Mitcham rewrote the history books when in an astonishing last-gasp performance under extreme pressure, he became the first Australian male diver in 84 years to win an Olympic gold medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, becoming just the second-ever Australian do so.

Already one of the NSWIS Most Outstanding athletes, Mitcham is among illustrious company on the Hall of Fame list, which includes fellow NSWIS Most Outstanding athletes Alyson Annan, Liz Ellis, Brad McGee, Michael Milton, Louise Sauvage and Ian Thorpe.

During his time at the NSW Institute of Sport, Mitcham won medals at Commonwealth Games level and in 2008 won the coveted The Don Award for his gold medal performance in Beijing, as well as being honoured with a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to sport.
