NSWIS swimming athletes have taken home multiple medals including four gold at the 2021 Australian Swimming Championships on the Gold Coast.
Cate Campbell and Bronte Campbell took gold and bronze respectively in the Women’s 50m Freestyle.
Campbell hit the wall in 24.38, narrowly edging out Emma Mckeon in 24.39 and Bronte Campbell in 24.75.
Cate Campbell had to settle for silver in the 100m Freestyle Final, posting one of the top ranked swims of 2021 (52.85) after going stroke for stroke with Emma McKeon who claimed the win.
Matt Wilson showed his strength in the breaststroke events, claiming three medals over multiple distances. Wilson took gold in the Men’s 50m final in a tight finish to post a 27.55; and claimed silver in both the Men’s 100m and 200m Breaststroke finals.
NSWIS athletes made it a clean sweep with a spectacular finish to the Men’s 50m Butterfly. Shaun Champion claimed the win in 23.94, closely followed by William Yang in 24.08 while Edward Marks took bronze in 24.25. Champion also claimed the silver in 52.17 in the Men’s 100m Fly.
Meg Bailey also bagged multiple medals, taking silver in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley, bronze in the Women’s 200m Individual Medley; and bronze in the Women’s 200m Butterfly.
Bradley Woodward took silver in the 100m Backstroke, touching just behind Southport local Tristan Hollard, adding to his tally with bronze in the Men’s 200m backstroke. In other results, Angus McDonald & Joshua Hertz claimed victory in the 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay.
