Ellie claimed silver and bronze medals in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and became Australia’s most decorated female Paralympian of all time with her 17th medal.
An inspiration to her Australian teammates, always putting her hand up to support and mentor the next generation of Paralympians, Ellie said was honoured to receive the prestigious award.
Making the achievement just a little bit more special, she explained that Ian Thorpe was actually her childhood sporting hero.
Alumnus Ian Thorpe was inducted into the NSWIS Most Outstanding in 2007 and this week elevated to Legend in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
Receiving the honours to celebrate the significant milestone achieved by Ellie, the humble athlete says in her 17 years of swimming, she has never won an award like this.
“17 medals across 17 years, and this is such a special way for me to finish” she said.
