Prince of pommel comes unstuck

NSWIS artistic gymnast Prashanth Sellathurai will have to wait until the official Olympic test event to secure his spot at the 2012 Olympic Games after missing out on automatic qualification at the 2011 FIG World Championships in Tokyo.

Sellathurai finished sixth in the men’s pommel horse final with a score of 14.333, unfortunately coming unstuck during his routine.

The three medallists from the event received automatic qualification to next year’s Games, with Sellathurai considered a strong chance after winning bronze at the 2009 and 2010 world championships.

He will now have to wait to qualify at the Olympic test event in January next year, or for an invitation from the Federeation International of Gymnastics.
