Rollers end Tokyo campaign fifth

The Australian men’s wheelchair basketball team, the Rollers ended their Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games campaign fifth after beating Turkey in their playoff match on Saturday 4th September at the Ariake Arena.

Coming into the Games the Rollers were a team to watch and wanted to be within medal contention, unfortunately that wasn’t how their campaign progressed going down to two defeats in their pool qualification group, and then losing to host nation Japan in their quarter-final match.

That loss set up a fifth place playoff match with Turkey, the Rollers including NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarship holders, Michael Auprince, John McPhail and Brett Stibners alongside the full squad of 12 wanted to leave Tokyo with a win and they achieved that task beating Turkey 74-58.

Auprince played seven minutes scoring two points, McPhail played 13 minutes and Stibners played 13 minutes coring seven points.  Rollers teammate Tristan Knowles top scored with 31 points.
