Australia’s men’s trap shooters James Willett and Thomas Grice have fallen short of a finals birth in an incredibly tight contest.
The NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarship holders finished 21st and 25th respectively, with Willett just two shots from earning a place in a shoot-off for the remaining final positions.
Following day one’s first three rounds, the Australians needed to make up ground on their competitors, with only the top six making it through to the final. It started well with both shooting a perfect 15/25 in round 4, placing Willett in 10th, however sitting just one shot short of second position.
However, it was not to be for the men, with final round scores of 23 for the Aussies ending their hopes of a final. Both men will now look ahead to the trap mixed team events on Saturday.
