The NSW Institute of Sport community mourns the sudden passing of snowboard cross star Alex ‘Chumpy’ Pullin.

The 32-year-old enjoyed a successful career on the snow, winning nine world cup gold medals and representing Australia at three Winter Olympic Games, including being appointed flagbearer at the 2014 Sochi Games. He reached the very pinnacle of his sport as a two-time men’s snowboard cross world champion, becoming the first ever Australian winter sports athlete to win back-to-back world titles.

Alex was an extraordinary individual who pursued his passions in sport and in life, and his loss will be felt by all at Team NSWIS and across the Australian sporting community.

An NSWIS scholarship holder from 2010 through to 2019, the thoughts of everyone at Team NSWIS are with Alex’s family and friends during this time
