NSWIS diver Esther Qin has finished sixth in the final of the 3m springboard event in Rio.

Qin scored 344.10 points to finish one spot behind fellow Australian Maddison Keeney in the 12-strong final at Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre.

It was a sensational performance from Qin in her first Olympic Games after going into the final ranked 10th through qualifying.

“I’m happy, it wasn’t my best round but I was consistent and I didn’t really have any big misses so I am happy,” Qin told the AOC website.

“My coach is also very happy, top six in the world is a good result. I will just keep working hard.”

China’s Shi Tingmao, the reigning FINA Female Diver of the Year, took the gold medal.

The Kookaburras have been knocked out of the men’s hockey competition following a crushing 4-nil loss to The Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

Australia found themselves down 2-nil down at halftime and hopes of a comeback were dented straight after the break when the Dutch added a third goal.

It was a disappointing end to the Rio Games for the Kookaburras who came into the tournament as the reigning world champions and the number one ranked team.

The Hockeyroos face a Trans-Tasman battle with New Zealand in the quarter-final this evening (AEST).

Casey Sablowski, Emily Smith, Georgina Morgan, Grace Stewart and Mariah Williams will feature for the Australians.

A win over New Zealand will see them reach the final four and be in contention for a medal.
