Committed to helping Australian athletes learn, thrive and contribute to the community, the Australian Institute of Sport have launched their latest community engagement initiative; Share a Yarn.

To ‘share a yarn” is to encourage collaborative, respectful and honest communication between participants; building trust, fostering accountability and providing a safe place to listen and learn.

Four current athletes from the NSW Institute of Sport and one former NSWIS athlete are set to take part in the initiative, which will span over 12 months. Cyclist Amanda Reid, rowers Rowena Meredith & Emma Fessey plus sailor Rebecca Hancock will join former cyclist Mitch Bullen and elite athletes from across Australia to engage in and encourage meaningful connections with the Indigenous community.

It’s hoped participants will learn more about the differing cultures, lands, histories and people within them. Utilising organisations that are already delivering fantastic programs to youth in these communities, Share a Yarn aims to open up channels for ongoing communication and learning between participants and athletes.
