Strength and Conditioning

NSWIS Strength & Conditioning (S&C) department forms an integral part of a performance support system for NSWIS athletes. They collaborate with other sports science professionals, coaches, and medical staff to provide a holistic approach to athlete development. By working together, they address various aspects of performance to maximise athletes’ overall performance potential.   

S&C staff are responsible for providing specialised training programs tailored to the specific needs of individual athletes or teams and support to athletes in order to optimise their physical performance and reduce the risk of injury. The department focuses on enhancing athletes’ strength, power, speed, endurance, agility, and overall physical capabilities.

Powering Athletes

  • Focus on developing athletes’ strength, power, speed, endurance, and agility, which are essential for optimal performance in their respective sports 
  • Develops periodised training plans that align with the athletes’ competition calendar and specific performance goals 
  • Utilises various assessment tools and technologies to evaluate athletes’ physical capabilities, monitor progress, track performance indicators, and identify areas for improvement 
  • Helps athletes minimise the risk of injuries and works closely with the medical department to plan, design and deliver rehabilitation programs when injuries do occur
