Physiology

NSWIS physiologists work predominantly with racing sports, such as athletics and rowing, where enhancing the physiological make up of an athlete will have the biggest impact on performance.

The physiologists’ role is broad and varied but in its essence, entails quantifying and understanding the training stimulus being applied, and the subsequent training response. This can range from assessments in the lab to measurements taken in the field, from blood measures to monitoring heart rate response and subjective athlete feedback. Strong relationships are formed between physiologists and coaches to decipher and interpret this information in a way that can have meaningful impact on training programming and athlete performance.
