Swimming

In partnership with Swimming Australia and Swimming NSW, the NSWIS swimming program provides world class coaching, training facilities and support services to NSW based athletes.

WORLD’S BEST

The NSWIS Swimming Program has a stellar record of producing world class swimmers who excel at national and international levels, including the Olympics and World Championships. Notably NSWIS alumni Ian Thorpe holds five Olympic gold medals, ten Commonwealth Games gold medals and fourteen world championship titles. Ellie Cole proved to be one of Australia’s most successful Olympian, with three world championships and eight Paralympic medals whilst on scholarship. Emma McKeon began her journey at NSWIS along with her brother David, and is now the most decorated Australian in Olympic history. Paralympian Tim Hodge has also achieved incredible results, breaking his own world record twice in the 200m individual medley, as well as securing three Paralympic medals and a gold medal at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. James “The Missile” Magnussen, dubbed the “Usain Bolt of the water,” earned Olympic silver and two bronze medals.

Now and under the expert guidance of coach Adam Kable and program manager Melissa Mitchell-Gumley, a former world champion, the NSWIS swimming squad continues to foster excellence with swimmers at an international level, making noteworthy contributions to Australian swimming.
