The Australian men’s under-19 basketball team, the Emus, have progressed to the second round of the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championships in Latvia over the weekend after demolishing Chinese Tapei in their third group match.

The Emus, led by NSWIS Basketball Program Head Coach Damian Cotter, lost to powerhouses Lithuania on Saturday, Australian time, but were able to bounce back to record a 93-65 point win and progress to round two.

NSWIS athletes Daniel Trist and Andrija Dumovic played limited minutes but contributed strongly with Dumovic pulling down six rebounds in only 12 minutes. NSWIS graduate Jackson Aldridge performed solidly, recording four points, four rebounds and four assists.

The Emus will play later tonight against Russia in the round of 16.
