Australia has made the perfect start to the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championships in Latvia with a 73-49 thumping of Argentina.

The team, coached by NSWIS Basketball Program Head Coach Damian Cotter, features two NSWIS athletes and was never really troubled by the Argentines, defending strongly for the whole match before running away with a 29 point performance in the fourth quarter.

Australia was led by Anthony Drmic with 25 points, while NSWIS athlete Daniel Trist contributed with two points, one rebound and five assists in 19 minutes. Fellow NSWIS athlete Andrija Dumovic recorded two points and one rebound in five minutes of play. Jackson Aldridge, a graduate of the NSWIS program, finished with seven points, two assists and three rebounds.

Australia’s next game is tonight against host Latvia, a team led by recent NBA draftee David Bertans.
