Australia’s junior men’s pursuit team, including NSWIS athlete Jackson Law, has claimed gold on day one of the 2011 UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Russia.

Law and compatriots Alexander Morgan, Jack Cummings and Alexander Edmonson powered home in 4:02.400 to defeat Russia, crushing the Russian’s 2009 world record of 4:04.448 in the process.

The victory is Law’s second consecutive world championship crown after he and three fellow Australians won the same title at the 2010 junior world championships in Italy.

Law then went on to couple his gold with bronze in the men’s individual pursuit. The youngster clocked a time of 3:22.530 to be edged out of gold and silver by riders from Korea and Germany.
