NSWIS snowboarder Joany Badenhorst has claimed the IPC World Cup Crystal Globe after a second silver medal at the Pyeongchang 2018 test event in Korea.

Badenhorst won silver in the banked slalom event behind Dutchwoman Bibian Mentel-Spee, however her points total for the season was enough to be crowned overall champion of the World Cup series.

“I’m over the moon, I’m so happy,” Badenhorst said to the Australian Paralympic Committee (APC).

“It’s massive boost for my confidence. I definitely didn’t really expect this.”

Following the result Australian coach Lukas Prem told the APC he was excited by the results ahead of next year’s Winter Games.

“All the guys are improving all the time and I’m really happy with the new guys. I’ve been blown away by the progress. There is overall improvement in everything we have worked on.

“Now the plan moving forward is to get back to basics. Solidify the base riding skills and then we can really chip away at targeting really specific training and making sure we’re ready to go when it matters next year.”

Fellow NSWIS athlete Ben Tudhope finished seventh in the men’s banked slalom event.
