BMX cyclist Saya Sakakibara has secured bronze as she prepares for the upcoming World Championships.

Sakakibara produced a stoic performance to place third in the elite women event at the USA BMX Lone Star GoPro Supercross Series in Houston, USA. Current World Champion, Elise Willoughby (USA), took home top honours.

The NSW Institute of Sport athlete used the event to prepare for the 2020 UCI World Championships, which will take place at the same location in May.

Saya Sakakibara honoured her brother Kai by competing in a new jersey emblazoned with the #KaiFight77 hashtag. You can donate to Kai’s recovery here.

Brand new @dkbicycles jerseys were printed just in time for racing in Houston, USA this weekend! The 2020 World Championships will be held here in May, so this week is a little pre-Worlds camp, learning the track and also getting some race experience. I seeing the #KaiFight77 being posted around social media lately has helped me be strong, knowing Kai has the support of everyone domestically and internationally. Many thanks You can help Kai on his recovery by donating via the link in my bio
