New South Wales Institute of Sport scholarship athlete Thomas Cornish was a member of the Australian men’s team that kicked off their 2024 Track Nations Cup season in Hong Kong with back-to-back gold medals.

The 24 year old [photographed second from left in 2022] who is based in Adelaide as a member of the Australian Cycling Team Podium Potential Academy, joined Leigh Hoffman, Matt Richardson and Matthew Glaetzer in defeating Japan in the final over the weekend.

After finishing the final in 42.274 seconds, the Aussies extended their margin of victory in the 1000m event out to 0.684 seconds.

The performance adds to Cornish’s trajectory since he made his mark at the 2018 Aigle UCI Junior Track World Championships by breaking the junior world record and winning gold in the kilometre time trial.

Australia will compete in Canada next month for round three of the UCI Track Nations Cup.
