It was positive news all-round on day four of competition at the 2011 FINA Aquatic World Championships, with six NSWIS athletes continuing their respective campaigns in the water.

NSWIS diver Alexandra Croak is poised to make a run at the medals in the women’s 10m platform after a solid day of diving. Croak cruised through the preliminary rounds, qualifying for the semi-final in eighth place before improving two spots to sixth to be well in the mix for a berth on the medal dais in tonight’s final.

Elsewhere in Shanghai, the Australian men’s water polo team, the Sharks, kept their perfect start to the tournament in tact with a 12-7 win over China.

NSWIS athlete Richie Campbell was the Sharks’ top scorer with three goals, with fellow NSWIS athlete Gavin Woods adding another. They were joined in the team by NSWIS athletes Joel Dennerley, Aidan Roach and Mitch Baird, with the team taking on European giants Serbia on Friday.

Today’s action will see Croak dive for medals in the final of the women’s 10m platform, and four NSWIS athletes compete for the Australian women’s water polo team, the Stingers, against Uzbekistan.
