Diamonds shine brightest of all

The Australian Diamonds netball team has been crowned world champions after a stellar win in the final of the 2015 Netball World Cup in Sydney.

The Diamonds, featuring seven NSWIS athletes, secured their third consecutive world after defeating the NZ Silver Ferns 58-55 in front of 16,849 fans.

A 16-7 opening quarter from the Australians led to a 30-22 half-time lead, before the Silver Ferns brought back the margin to just six heading into the final quarter.

Despite late pressure the Diamonds held on to win by three goals and claim Australia’s 11th netball world championship crown.

The NSWIS athletes in the team were Kim Green, Kim Ravaillion, Julie Corletto, Sharni Layton, Caitlin Thwaites, Rebecca Bulley and Paige Hadley.
