NSWIS diving athletes Lauren Flint and Sam Fricker got off to a flying start at the 2018 FINA Junior World Championships this week, securing Australia’s first medal of the championships along with teammates Matthew Carter and Alysha Koloi.

The Australian team executed five quality dives to claim the bronze medal in the Mixed Team Event on day two of competition in Kyiv, placing behind Great Britain and China.

Great Britain successfully defended their title with a score of 318.70, while China outscored Australia by just three points to claim second place by the slimmest of margins.

NSWIS Assistant Coach and Australian Junior National Team Coach Vyninka Arlow was ecstatic about the result, which she believes will give impetus to the Australian team’s campaign in events still to come in Ukraine this week.

Other notable Australian performers this week include Alysha Koloi, who claimed a surprise bronze in the girls’ A-class 3-metre springboard on day four of competition.
