Fox wins sixth K1 world cup title in Spain

Three-time Olympic champion and New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarship holder Jess Fox has claimed her sixth women’s K1 World Cup title with victory in the women’s K1 final at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup Final in La Seu, Spain.

Fox won her third women’s K1 World Cup gold medal of the season, completing three tough runs on the same day from heats, semis and the final. She was clinical in her performance across the three races to save her best run until the final. Fox overcame an early two-second penalty to power to the finish line and win the title in 93.77.

“It’s a heavy day, it’s a heavy program. Each run you’re mentally preparing, you’re physically pushing. You need to pace yourself to make the top 30, then make the final so my arms are exploding and I’ve got another day tomorrow,” she said.

“To put down those runs on a hard course, I’m really proud and really happy to win, and sad to knock my sister off the podium but it’s very special to share it with Cami [Prigent] and Monica [Doria] here.”

Only 12 months following kidney surgery, Fox has climbed back to the top of the world with her 13th overall World Cup title and her sixth women’s K1 World Cup title, finishing with 322 points for the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup Series.

The victory sealed on the 2027 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championship course has given Fox more confidence to return next year to defend her women’s K1 World Championship title.

“I love racing in Seu,” she said. “The support here is amazing. It’s always a really lovely place to race and to get that feel for the World Champs next year. It’ll be my third World Championships here, if I’m there hopefully.

“It’s always good to race here and it’s an important step along the way. I’m really happy to be on top today.”

Noemie Fox (NSWIS) was very close to joining her sister on the podium for the women’s K1 final. The final paddler, Monica Doria, clinched the third spot on the podium to see Noemie finish fourth.

Paris 2024 Olympian Tim Anderson (NSWIS) also competed in the men’s K1 final and finished 8th overall.

Day three of racing continues at the 2026 ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup Final in Lau Seu this evening with the women’s and men’s Canoe events from 5:30pm AEST.
