Pre-season has just kicked off for the NSW Swifts and with it comes the exciting announcement of the team’s Training Partners for next year’s Suncorp Super Netball campaign.

Five representatives from New South Wales have taken up contracts for 2019, including two from the NSW Institute of Sport Netball Program.

Tayla Fraser, who had time in the Swifts camp as replacement players in Round 9 against the Melbourne Vixens has been selected alongside young shooter Matisse Letherbarrow, who recently celebrated winning the Under 20s Netball NSW Premier League with North Shore United.

The pair join Kelly Singleton, Claire O’Brien and Sophie Halpin as Training Partners for the Swifts.

The main role of a Training Partner is to help with day-to-day training of the squads. They are also a suitable fit and available to provide support as replacement players if necessary.

NSW Swifts Head Coach Briony Akle shared her excitement over the announcement.

“I’m thrilled that this calibre of young talent will be joining us; they’ve all earned their spot to be here. They’re extremely passionate athletes, and with them coming through the NSW pathway, they have such pride in and commitment to the Red Dress.

“The Swifts have been building something really strong and special, and the 2018 season showed we are able to compete with the best in this competition.

“Everyone at the NSW Swifts is confident that, with the help of these young-guns, 2019 is going to be an even better year for us.

“It’s really important to us to have Training Partners because they get the chance to further develop their skills in a high-performance environment, and the players in the main Swifts roster push themselves harder as a result.”
