The third FINA Grand Prix event concluded on the weekend in Mission Viejo, USA with NSWIS athletes Melissa Wu and Esther Qin featuring prominently.

In only her second event back following a 12 month break from competition, Melissa Wu delivered a gold medal in the Women’s 10m Platform with a score of 355.80.

Wu backed up this performance with a silver medal in the Women’s 10m Platform Synchro, debuting the new pairing with Victoria’s Annabelle Smith. On their first outing the pair score 290.64 which was enough to lock in second place behind Great Britain.

Esther Qin bounced back from an early exit in the Women’s 3m Springboard to secure another podium in the Women’s 3m Springboard Synchro event with partner Georgia Sheehan, scoring 280.80 points to take the bronze medal.

Kevin Chavez was knocked out in the semi finals of the Men’s 3m Springboard after scoring a solid 376.25 in the preliminary round. Synchro partner Matt Carter and Kevin Chavez finished in 11th place in the Men’s 3m Springboard Sycnhronised event scoring 316.77 points.

The next event in the international diving calendar is the FINA World Series event in Montreal, Canada featuring NSW Institute of Sport diver Declan Stacey from April 26-28.
