Data is extremely important in the development of athletes in sport and technology now allows the easy capture of key metrics which inform such outcomes as in-game coaching decisions and athlete workload.

The NSW Institute of Sport, in partnership with Hockey Australia and Hockey NSW, provided performance analysis and support for all teams at the recent U21 Australian Championships in Wollongong, NSW.

Senior Performance Analyst Bjorn Maddern led a team of interns who captured and delivered live data, presented in a format which coaches at the tournament could use both during and after their match. From the Strength & Conditioning department at NSWIS, Alan Tan facilitated the use of GPS tracking for the NSW Men’s U21 squad, the data for which will be used in the management of athletes during future tournaments.
