Govers added another goal to help Australia to a 2-1 lead, before the Belgians scored five minutes later to equalise at 2-2. A final Australian goal just one minute from the final whistle sealed the victory.

The second match of the tournament saw the Australians suffer a tough 0-1 loss to the Netherlands, with the only goal coming in the 38th minute.

Australia next play Argentina in pool B.
