The Australian Hockeyroos, featuring nine NSWIS athletes, have finished in sixth place at the 2011 Champions Trophy in the Netherlands.

The Hockeyroos were defeated by rivals 0-2 England in the close encounter, meaning Australia is in danger of being relegated from the 2012 Champions Trophy. The international hockey federation, FIH, will select two teams who failed to finish inside the top five at the tournament to play at next year’s event, a key tournament only six months out from the 2012 London Olympic Games.

England led the Hockeyroos 0-1 into the half time break despite a number of chances from the Australians, and then put the result beyond doubt with another goal only 17 minutes from full time.
