The Australian women’s hockey team, the Hockeyroos, has finished second at the 2013 FIH Women’s World League Finals in Argentina, falling to the Netherlands.

After accounting for England 3-0 in the semi-final, the Hockeyroos, featuring NSWIS athletes Casey Eastham, Emily Smith, Kellie White and Kate Jenner, faced a strong Dutch team in the final of the inaugural event.

A solid opening half saw the Australians lead 1-0 thanks to a goal in the sixth minute, with the Hockeyroos eventually entering the half-time break holding the slim lead.

The second half was a different story however, with the Netherlands scoring five unanswered goals to take the title 5-1.

Despite the tough loss the tournament provided an excellent foundation from which to build ahead of the 2014 FIH World Cup.
