A total of 20 NSWIS athletes and coaches have been nominated for awards across eight categories ahead of the Athletics Australia Athlete of the Year Awards in Sydney.

The awards come on the back of a huge year in 2016, including the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and will be announced in conjunction with athletes selected for the 2017 IAAF Athletics World Championships and World Para-Athletics Championships in London.

The NSWIS nominations are as follows:

Female Athlete of the Year

Madeline Hills (distance), Ella Nelson (sprints), Dani Samuels (discus), Eloise Wellings (distance)

Male Athlete of the Year

Fabrice Lapierre (long jump)

Female Para-Athlete of the Year

Angie Ballard (wheelchair racing), Madison de Rozario (wheelchair racing), Taylor Doyle (long jump)

Male Para-Athlete of the Year

Kurt Fearnley (wheelchair racing), Evan O’Hanlon (sprints), James Turner (distance)

Female Junior Athlete of the Year

Alex Hulley (hammer throw), Jessica Thornton (400m)

Para-Athletics Coach of the Year

Iryna Dvoskina (Evan O’Hanlon), Brett Robinson (Sarah Walsh, James Turner)

Able-Bodied Coach of the Year

Nic Bideau (Eloise Wellings), Adam Didyk (Madeline Hills), Michael Dooley (Jessica Thornton)

Junior Coach of the Year

Breanne Clement (Alex Hulley), Karyne di Marco (Alex Hulley)

The ceremony takes place on April 2 in Sydney.
